    Hi Chucky,
Tim suggested a separate night for the video night to the curry night so that will come later I guess.
For now, the curry night is this Saturday (23rd November ). A table has been booked at for 18 people at 7.30. We have 16 who have said yes so far but I’m waiting to hear from a few others. Being a Saturday evening we need to confirm exact numbers, so anyone who wants to join us then please leave a message or call me. We are going to Ishas, Lye Cross. 8 Stourbridge Road, Lye DY9 0QT. http://www.ishas.co.uk if you need details. Ps we can take our own drinks so this should keep the cost down, so don’t forget your beer or wine, or coke for Kee and Barry

You have too much time on your hands at that Fire Station. Try putting some fires out or rescuing a cat !!
Brilliant though, wish I’d have had as much time at Stourbridge Fire station. !!

Ok guys it won’t be the Clywedog. I’ve just spoken to the chap who controls the water release from the Clywedog dam (11am). He’s shutting down in half an hour for the weekend !!

Thanks guys, hopefully others will be inspired to help out with the coaching at the club and learn a few things on the way. Tim has mentioned a few names and you all have the potential to become level 1 coaches and help others progress.
It was a very enjoyable course that involved organising two straightforward coaching sessions, one in kayak (0n the 2nd day) and one in open canoe (on day 3).
Simple 20 minute sessions to include a 2 minute safety brief beforehand, then the lesson. I chose stern rudder in kayak and moving sideways in a canoe i.e draw strokes so nothing difficult.
We then had an afternoon of rescues i.e. Aid a swimmer in several ways including use of a throwline,Capsize in kayak and canoe and retrieve your boat and gear to shore. T rescue, Eskimo rescue, hand of God, capsize and re enter the boat with assistance from another paddler, both kayak and canoe. Followed by the chaotic all in rescue involving all 12 of us, half in canoe half in kayaks. next year their is a time limit to achieve this ! Fortunately that’s next year, as it took us over 13 minutes we’d have had to do it again or fail. !!
Alltogether a great course though and I have to say I enjoyed the open boating too, so thanks to Barry for the use of his boat and Tim and John for the open boat coaching and giving up their time to help.
If anyone fancies doing it and has any questions I’ll be at the club on Thursday, best ask soon before I forget everything !

Sounds like a good idea to me Tim. How much is a resussy Anne ?
Just don’t lend it to Geoff to practice down in Bristol ! Dread to think what state it would come back in !!

Well done Tim for getting things done and keeping the club moving forward through your enthusiasm and motivation.
Only other things mentioned at the committee meeting was the purchase of smaller items, such as spray decks, air bags etc, to be locked in the “dog cage” hopefully generously donated by Paul Williams.
Purchase of air bags for the club’s Dagger Mamba and Riot Magnum (for when Shane decides to go for a swim ! ). Really hard work rescuing boats full of water without air bags. Oh and a drain bung too for the Magnum.

Only a small group of six of us turned out on a damp grey autumn day.
But what a great day we had, full of excitement and entertainment !
The Tryweryn wasn’t releasing so clubs from all over the country who’d booked bunkhouses around Bala had nowhere else to go, so too a canoe symposium. Consequently the Dee and Serpents itself was heaving with all sorts of boats and crafts. River was quite low at .50 on the EA gauge at Corwen (about 2.5 on the gauge at Mile End Mill ). So we played on Serpents trying to make eddies and rescuing swimmers and boats from other groups (as well as our own ). great to watch a group of open boaters come through, some skilfully some frantically and some swimming, but most roping their boats through.
More entertainment when a raft appeared making its way down and we all agreed with the river so low and the gap only 4 ft wide at the tail there was no way it would fit through, we were right !! Wedged tight there was a lot of pushing and pulling and moving around the boat before the raft guide managed to bend the boat by pulling on a rope on the one side and sending everyone against the rock face that we all try so hard to avoid ! But fair play to him they got through.
Highlight of the day was Geoff”s first, and successful run of Serpent’s. Captured on video by his son and our reserve photographer Kee who is obviously better at kayaking. Did he get any dinner last night Geoff ?
