Richard DParticipant
The senior citizens section of Wombourne kayak club were out again this week trading Rob for Gary ( which did nothing for the average age of the group). Geoff did calculate that had Kee been with us the average age would have been 48, without him it was a few years higher ! This was a great day for working on kayaking skills with no beginners to worry about. Geoff showed us the left hand line through the boulder garden which was new to the rest of us. A thoroughly rewarding and enjoyable paddle finished off with Bala Mill Falls. Gary came into the eddy river left where we both watched John prevent a capsize as he came through the rooster and performed a superb, instictive Low Brace, okay he missed the eddy but the Low Brace was something to be proud of ! In his earlier paddling days John was often known a ” John the swimmer” but it is a rare occurrence to see him swim now, Taking Serpent’s tail, Bala Mill Falls, Town Fall et al in his stride. Me and Gary then broke in and finished off Bala Mill, Gary just drifting on down making it look easy.
Must have a word with Tim about getting some Wombourne Kayak club T-shirt with ” Old Guys Rule” printed on them !
Who’s out next week ?Richard DParticipantBarry is meeting me at 7.45 and we will be picking John up at 8 O’clock to be at the Stewponey by 8.15, then on to Dobbies for around 9am.
Post a reply or text if you’re coming so we know whether we are waiting for anyone.
See you in the morning.Richard DParticipantGreat stuff Geoff. Super record of a great weekend.
Richard DParticipantGood job done there guys. What are the names of the boats ?
Richard DParticipantStill 14 then Nigel. Unfortunately Oliver can’t get time off work from PGL so it looks like I’ll have to drag out the old Vango Force 10 and be on my own.
I’ll be coming up Saturday morning. Do you know the tide times ? Fancy running through the Menai and Swellies when the tide is racing through !!Richard DParticipantGreat report Tim, sounds like you had a great day, wish I could have made it. Being woken before 5am and having to clean up puppy poo isn’t my normal Saturday routine ! Still, hopefully Victor will have settled in by next weekend and I’ll be joining the rest of the gang in Anglesey.
Richard DParticipantGreat summary of a great day. Cheers Tim, Great club.
Richard DParticipantBeautiful rivers Gary. Looks like you had a great week. We must get a club trip up to Scotland.
Richard DParticipantNice report Tim and looking forward to going to Mile End Mill.
Think everyone had a great time and it’s always good to try putting new things into practice. Missed my last roll, more practice in swift water required !!Richard DParticipantLast 2 weeks on the Tryweryn and the previous 3 weeks on the Dee. Jackfield would be a first for this year and a nice change. If you need any help Tim I’d be willing. Might be worth contacting a few people who have been waiting for the warmer weather and some help on moving water.
Richard DParticipantExcellent report Nigel after a fantastic day’s paddling. Went out for a drink with the wife later in the evening, £7.60 for a glass of wine and a pint of Guiness, makes £7 for the Tryweryn seem cheap !!
Richard DParticipantLook forward to paddling with you Steve. Hopefully the weather will be good again. PS where do you live, was it you following me back up South Road after the pool session last Thursday?
Richard DParticipantMe & Oliver please Nige
Richard DParticipantWell done Tim for another great year. Let’s hope for another year of progress and improved paddling.
Richard DParticipantCongratulations on reaching some of your goals, sounds like it turned out to be a brilliant day all round. Think I’d need to smoke a bit of wacky backy before I got on there !!
