It was Saturday 25th January when we last ran the Vyrnwy and the level was 1.36.
This time the level was 1.54 ( about 7 inches higher ) but it turned out to be a very good level. Barry was trying his new Mamba on it’s first proper river run so may have been a little concerned at first, but commented after “it’s like riding a bike”.
A group of 10, ( Barry, Ricki, John, Andy, Kee, Paul and myself were joined by 3 new paddlers to the group with Carl bringing his friends Dave & Taz). We put on at Pont Logel and had a very pleasant trip down towards Dolanog spending time breaking in, breaking out, ferrying and surfing on the many features the Vyrnwy has to offer.
Portage of Dolanog complete we put back on and moved on down to the gorge section which had it’s usual own added excitement made more difficult by a tree that was partially in the last drop causing us to be a little more cautious, but the only real disappointment was that I left my throwline on the bank there !
A really good paddle enjoyed by all. Carl, Dave and Taz then headed of to their caravans not too far away, whilst the rest of us headed back in torrential rain feeling glad we’d managed to finish before it came down.
Another great day.
