Sadly it seems our hopes of running the Clywewdog tomorrow won’t happen unless the reservoir increases the release before the morning.
I spoke with a really helpful chap at the dam today who said they are currently releasing 350 Mega litres ( this reads as 0.44 on the E A gauge at Bryntail ).
He said the minimum release for a decent paddle needs to be around 450 Mega litres ( this would read around 0.48 – 0.49 on the EA gauge ). the previous time we ran the Clywedeog the E A gauge reading was 0.51 and the release was 500 Megalitres.
So suggestions for a paddle tomorrow are welcome but if there are no ideas I’m happy to go to Jackfield. If you fancy it meet at 10am

Good day today at Jackfields with Rich D John Rob Paul Kee and myself.

Only the 3rd time I’ve been there this year and the lowest I’ve paddled. Gave me a much needed chance to ferry, catch a few new eddys and even surf a wave or two….! (ok….one)

Kee was also pleased as he managed to hand roll his new boat for the first time.
Another first was Robs first swim with the club, bit nasty as he caught a rock with his head which left him feeling a bit queasy.
    All better now though.

Shared the river with many groups of paddlers, three guys with two old kayaks and a canoe who were having a bit of a party there later ( to which we were invited), a group of paddle boarders who chose to portage, one guy (who was too good a paddler to wear a helmet) who was leading two teenagers, and various groups of open boaters and lads in dinghy’s passing through.

One open boat needed rescuing (much to there mates delight) by us, which was fun,but the cider was lost to the Severn.

Called it a day after that and had the usual picnic then across the river for refreshments.

Thanks to all for a great time.

Good summary of the day Geoff and great to have you back out on the water enjoying it. No matter how many times we go to Jackfield the different levels always throw up something new and interesting, I always enjoy it there and the pub afterwards !
