I arrived half an hour early and decided to get onto the water alone. Slipped on the bank, nearly broke me neck and narrowly avoided an early swim! Bloody Hell!
Anyways, we started with a bank based session exploring the options available to use when we break into the flow. Its surprising just how many there are. We can use the eddy to pick up speed, our last stroke before crossing the eddy line can be a left or right stroke, we can look down river early or leave it late, we can apply pressure with our left or right foot. Decisions, Decisions.
I then demonstrated one of the possible approaches from the top eddy river right.
I didn’t really watch everyone on the river that closely because the aim was for you to make the decisions and try different techniques. Some of the ideas may not make sense at the moment but will in the future. I promise. My next coaching session will be on the bottom wave at mile end mill where we will work on using the river feature to get from one side of the river to the other. I must say Rich, Dave and John were showing off in this respect at the bottom of Jackfields, cruising across the river.
I really enjoyed it. Wish I could have stayed longer. Thanks John, Dave, Rob, Shane, Kee and Rich. Geoff couldnt paddle today suffering with a cut finger.
