Another trip to the Tryweryn and this time with a new paddler to the group in Steve Mason. Dave Bennett decided to add more interest by paddling his open canoe. So, a group of 8 of us left the Stewponey at 8.15 the others being Geoff & Kee, Paul, Rob, Dave Y and me. The usual stop at Dobbies but this time just for fuel and the traditional bacon bap. We decided to go the more pleasant route rather than the A5 but were slowed down by some slow moving traffic all the way to the Bala car park !! No time was wasted in getting changed and we were soon at the put in below Chapel but with Dave Y and Kee opting to get on at the raft get out for a bit of added excitement. We took a steady paddle down helping our new member Steve with some minor points, which he picked up with great speed and efficiency.
We all sat in eddies watching Dave B gracefully move his canoe from one eddy to another and ferry glide across with ease. It looks quite a challenge manoeuvring such a large craft around the boulders of the Tryweryn and Geoff has compiled a great bit of footage of Dave’s exploits, well worth watching.
On towards Bala Mill Falls and the group was split in two with 4 taking the leat which sadly included Dave’s canoe and 4 running the falls, with Paul attempting it for the first time. More video footage from Geoff shows people choosing their own eddies and different lines to run Bala Mill which is great to see.
Any ideas for next week’s paddle ?
