Just a few thoughts from Tuesdays trip

Dav and Bush joined me for a great day out on the Tees in Teesdale. After all the windy weather and risk of trees down I decided to run a wide open moorland river with less chance of hazards. Its worth knowing that printing the os map off rainchasers is really useful. This area is truly outstanding with drystone walls everywhere and limestone features all along the river.
We parked at the High Force hotel which has an honesty payment box… moving quickly on and then walked down the private track with another honesty payment box……say no more….. to the get in at the foot of High Force waterfall. They say its the most scenic starts to a paddle in the country and it probably is.

The level was a nice medium 1.0 m with all rocks covered. There is a video on vimeo which is the level we ran it on. Have a look at Tees high to low force by David Lawton. Low force is good but there is a rapid half a mile downstream full of drops, slides and waves of which I haven’t seen in any footage. Superb. I think most people get off before that rapid because of the long walk back to the road.

I observed Dav run through a technical rapid called dog leg better than I’ve ever seen any mate run a rapid. He had speed and nailed every key paddle stroke. It was a pleasure to watch. (I was a tad envious as well!)

After four swims during last two paddles it was nice to come home dry for a change!

Dav has got footage. Cant wait to see.
