On what was the hottest day of the year to date and dry suits and onesies were definitely not required we had one of the smallest turnouts for a paddle of the year with only 5 braving the hot sun ! Geoff, Kee, Rob, Paul and myself. The river was on a 5 on the MEM gauge and remarkably quiet as we only saw half a dozen other paddlers all day. We ran down from Horse shoe weir through Serpent’s a few times (with Kee showing us how to make the top eddies ) whilst others failed miserably and onwards down to a nice little water feature which had presumably been set up by the White waters hotel for wedding photographs. Here a fountain provided us with a place to cool off and Geoff to produce a nice ” Magic Roundabout” theme at the end of his video. We moved on towards Town Falls where Paul ran it for the first time. We all had a fantastic day, finished off nicely with a pint on the balcony of the Corn Mill looking at the lines and me wondering how I managed to end up in the slot, river right, whilst those following all got the correct line !
