Loz, Kee, Dave Y, Geoff and timbo ran the lower t today. We met at Dobbies and squeezed into two vans. Poor Dave lay in the back of Loz’s van and im sure he started barking during the journey to Bala. He also started snoring on the way back. (note to self do not camp next to dave next week). Im liking the look of the new services at Dobbies and enjoyed a 6 inch bacon sub…….I just hope Mrs Kelly doesn’t find out what 6 inches really looks like!

Anyway, enough banter from me and lets talk paddling. We arrive at the T and discover masses of cars and a slalom comp going on around the NRA and Chapel area. F’in great! We slalom our way across an overcrowded bridge overlooking NRA and finally get on the river in an area where all the slalom paddlers were getting off. “We need Ricki here ” suggested Dave.

We enjoy a nice surf session on camp site wave and head on down the river, making eddies, resting on top of rocks with kee, ferry gliding, observing the paddling ability of the lady in the following group of paddlers..etc..etc…

We arrived at the road bridge section and did a recce of the river left route and then ran it sweetly. Its another option for paddlers who dislike river right. We move down to Bala Mill falls and enjoy the sunshine and the nervous beads of sweat as we get closer to the rapid. I think I went first and made the river left eddy and Loz shot through taking a far left straight through “Oh Shit” kind of line and Dave came through taking a “backwards is the new forwards ” kind of line and Kee came through with an “Im cool, eddy right ,I can ferry glide anywhere I want.” kind of line. Geoff heard the group in front say “get ready” as we came through. “Eat my poo.” Geoff said. “We are Wombourne.” We showed them.

Nice chips in Bala in the sunshine served by a crazy local, a nice coffee a dobbies and home to a few beers and happy memories.

    Cheers lads!

(Report written after a few beers and a few glasses of wine. Plenty of artistic licence in there)

Great report Tim, sounds like you had a great day, wish I could have made it. Being woken before 5am and having to clean up puppy poo isn’t my normal Saturday routine ! Still, hopefully Victor will have settled in by next weekend and I’ll be joining the rest of the gang in Anglesey.

Great line through the boulder garden river left, little tricky at the top but much smoother after that.
Kee ran the usual line so hopefully Loz has some footage

Ive just watched kee’s footage. He went first! I would be crap as a witness in a court of law.
