These are my memories of yesterday

Watching Geoff perform a great whitewater roll on the bottom wave,

Watching Shane Rodeo the bottom wave,

Watching Dave crossing the middle stopper in an open boat with a big smile on his face,

Watching Andy having a go at crossing the bottom wave from left to right,

Watching Mark coaching whilst in the middle stopper,

Watching Nige having his first go in an open boat,

Watching Kee ripping it up in his playboat,

Watching Dave work his weaker left side,

Watching John get stuck in, despite not having a roll,

Watching Rich spin on the bottom wave like an 18 year old.

Finishing the day with a nice pint at the queens head near Oswestry.

Shane summed it all up “this is fun!”

We had the place to ourselves which helped. I really enjoy practicing on one particular feature and working on different skills in a controlled environment. All of the skills are transferable to new rivers and features. For example last week Dave practised at Jackfields using paddle strokes on the downstream side to move into the flow. He then used a similar technique at Mile End to get across waves and stoppers. On the bottom wave/stopper he found out that by increasing the length of each paddle stroke he was cruising across. Hopefully he will now take that forward to new situations that present themselves in the future.
