The 28th March saw a hardy bunch meet at Brownhills Canoe Club ( Sutton Coldfield canoe club) but in Brownhills, then head North to Derbyshire for a steady paddle on a New piece of water, The River Derwent from Darley Bridge in Darley Dale to Matlock town. Paddlers were Rich D, Barry, John, Dave B in his open canoe, Simon, Rob as shuttle buddy and myself.
The level was on 0.66 at 04-00am on Saturday morning which meant the run would be fine without any scrape concerns, we put on at 11-20am just below Darley Bridge. The first section is an ideal location for open canoeing, some nice scenery and no difficulties or hassle. Once we got around half way into the trip we came across some little features which enabled some play time, in particular the stone bridge at the start of Matlock Town, some nice areas to play and practice see the Facebook snaps. We eventually arrived at the section just above the Slalom course and had some fun playing here which was just above the take out.
We got off the water at around 14-10pm, while this is a steady bit of water we all had an enjoyable day and felt it a worth while trip which ticked off another new river for all but Dave B and Barry.
Thanks to Rob for the shuttle service and all who paddled for the usual great company and banter.
Happy Days are paddling days 😉
