I’m pretty much convinced that to run this river with decent water it needs to be about a metre and still raining because it drops off so quickly. Its a great location with ample parking, easy to get on and off, with a pool at the bottom to sort out problems.
Both myself and Ricki ran it 5 times with Barry on safety. We didn’t film the first run as we were still assessing the angle of attack and where to put safety and a chase boat in place etc. The eddy river right provided a good line in and we soon came to the conclusion that a final stroke on the left would be the best thing to do. Barry raised his arm each time to say he was ready and this was repeated back by the paddler on the water. Nice and controlled, one person at a time.
We worked on different things and we all learnt from each other. We haven’t edited the footage and what you see is how it happened. Not always perfect I know, but we can see areas to improve our technique and get better. By running a rapid over and over its incredible how the nerves disappear and you can start focusing on paddling!
My goal for the future is to work consciously at raising my knees to keep the front of the boat up. I would like to have a go at the double boof line on town falls and have a go at a few drops on the Llugwy with Mike at some point.
We had a run of another grade 4 further up river but with the river rising very quickly we decided to only do it the once. To run the river into the town of Llanwrtyd Wells the get out is river left immediately after the bridge.
A great place to bring the club in the future!
