    We got lost trying to find the Irfon today. Mark suggested it would be a good idea to spend a day checking out rivers. I reminded him that we checked this one out two months ago. Oh yes he replied. We finally found the river, its a trib of the upper wye dont you know and got on. It was so windy My boat was spinning around by itself on the floor! The Upper Irfon is full of horizon lines and tight slots to get through. We played it safe by inspecting all of the grade 4 drops and having a throw line ready. At this level the major features could be portaged. Its a great river. miws a koot I

    I don’t want to talk about it. I want to be alone. Well, ok then, it was like this. We were paddling a section described in the guide as flat. On a rapid I would class as a grade 1.5 I managed to get pinned on a branch running horizontal to the water at about chest height. I was able to lean onto it, keeping the boat upstream and tried in vein to shuffle along it. Over I went and frantically pulled my deck. Mark then witnessed Olympic standard swimming as I chased my boat and paddle. Mark said sorry for not bringing a saw and we went to the pub. All good fun!

    Glad you managed to get out today, sounds like your weather forecasting is better than the Met office.The rivers looked ok and my ratchet arrived this morning although a little late for me to make it. The Irfon looks a tricky one according to The Welsh Rivers book and you can no doubt verify ! Sounds like it was a day for a dry suit. See you Thursday for a de-brief.

    Well it sounds like a good day out, glad you both finished the day safely. The classic ending retire to the pub to put the world to rights, and arrange the next trip. Mark please remember the SAW next time ! Ha Ha.

    We have two Olympians in the Club preparing for Rio, Mark the secret Slalom specialist (with a Slalom boat ) and our illustrious Chairman a pool contender for Rio, these guy’s have some great adventures, I think they are more SAS, involved than Firemen Sam’s !! , Well done Guy’s Happy paddling 🙂

    On a serious note, our river trips need more paddlers carrying split paddles, first aid kits and saws, Everyone should have a throw line, whistle and knife. Your gonna need a bigger boat!

    I already carry a first aid kit in my big boat but sadly the play boat is limited and at times there isnt enough room for a throw line. 🙁
