Last Saturday, Barry, Dave B., Mick and myself John decided to try out our canoe skills from Arley to Bewdley. We reached Victoria bridge to see a train pass by, with Barry coming up with the idea of organising a paddle when the “Flying Scotsman” arrives on the SVR, I said I will be able to get a timetable as my son is driving it in September. Dave tried his “Surfing skills on the rapids and broken weir”. Mick also “Surfed” on the broken weir before we continued on our journey down the river bearing left side to avoid the fisherman. The weather did settle down after initial showers, when Barry had enough of his cag, and stripped off down to his base layer. Great to see Barry out again, and also Mick having an opportunity to use his new boat. Dave got it organised to egress at Bewdley Canoe Club, which made it easier for everyone apart from carrying the boats through the undergrowth where I was certainly “Stung” by a few nettles. Thanks to all that came, and I think it’s a good idea to take advantage during the Summer months to offer open canoe down the River Severn between Bridgnorth and Bewdley.
