Registration Date: 23-Apr-2015
Proposed hydro scheme up to 5MW comprising construction of intake weir, tunnel, buried pipeline, buried powerhouse building with outfall, switchgear room and transformer, and including biodiversity and recreational enhancement proposals, and alterations to existing vehicular access off the A470(T) near Fairy Glen Hotel, Betws y Coed.
Dear Mr Thomas
I am writing to object to the planning application listed above.
I have been visiting this special area for many years as a walker, kayaker and nature lover. This proposed development will destroy this “special” area and I fear the area will become another bland, controlled environment losing its natural and secluded feel.
This National Park was set up in 1951 to protect the environment from over the top developments like this. Multi million pound foreign companies obviously are aiming to make profits and are not thinking about the flora and fauna of this fragile ecosystem. Please maintain the tradition of the National Park ethos and keep them out!
I’ve read widely on the costs and benefits of the proposed scheme and have come to the conclusion that the costs outweigh the benefits. The Snowdon National Park already produces enough renewable electricity to meet its own demand and therefore excess energy will be exported out of the park. If the aim of the scheme is to produce energy to meet local demand and that is already being met then surely there is no justification for the scheme.
Thank You
Timothy Kelly
