The usual routine started the morning with me Barry and Steve arriving at the Stewponey at 8.15 to meet up with Rob and Sonny who was joining us for his first river trip. We met Kev at Dobbies and set off for Llangollen. We parked at the country park, got changed and headed up to the town in my van and Sonny’s car. We had a look at Town Falls from the bridge to show Kev and Sonny things to look forward to. The E A gauge at Corwen was on 0.57 (about 4 on the MEM gauge). We put on the river at 11 O’clock and practised eddy hopping, surfing and breaking in and out. This was a great warm up for Kev and Sonny who had done so well and grown in confidence that they cruised through Trevor rapids before stopping and playing for at least half an hour with huge smiles telling the story. Barry took a few good photos to record the event. We carried on down continuing to use the features before reaching the get out around 2.30. Unfortunately the lower field is closed at this time of the year which meant a long haul with the boats back up to the car park. When we eventually got there Sonny was gutted to find his car was no longer there parked alongside Kev’s van where he’d left it !!
This caused great amusement to us all (apart from Sonny) who had simply forgotten that running the shuttle meant his car was now in Llangollen !! Problem sorted and it was back to Dobbies for a well earned coffee.
