Surprise , surprise we met at Dobbies at 9am. There were 9 of us in the group :- John, Paul, Loz, Andy, Dave, Geoff, Kee, Ricki and myself. The gauge on the Vyrnwy at Pont Robert was on 1.41 and we decided this was a better option than the Tryweryn which can be saved for the days when nothing else is running, besides it was guaranteed to put a few scratches on Ricki’s new Waka Tuna on it’s maiden voyage. It was a cold but beautiful sunny January morning and we arrived at Pont Robert around 10.30, quickly changed and headed up to Pont Logel and boofed a bridge in our vehicles en route to set the mood. A quick check on the underside of Paul’s motor to make sure no damage was done and we put on the water at 11am.
The paddle was enjoyable and successful in that it was incident free and we got off the river around 2.30 to inspect the scratches Ricki had managed to add to his new boat. We collected the motors from Pont Logel and set of for the Breidden Arms for a well deserved Pint and bowl of chips although we came close to adding venison to the menu when a large stag darted across the road in front of our convoy ! Geoff and Kee’s video show the best bits of the river trip but sadly missed the deer. Another great day.
