Level 1.36 Temperature at 11-00am 14 degrees, awesome ( said Rich)
A lovely start to November 14 degrees and dry. The 1st of November 2014, Rich D celebrates his 57th Birthday with a bunch of Wombles on the river Vyrnwy. We did the usual shot gun start meet up, then descended on Dobbies, to re group. We arrived at the take out around 10-40am changed, organised the shuttle and off to Pont Llogel, the put in. We ended up a group of 12, and set off headed by Barry, who had an interesting start to the trip when he lost his boat as it set off down the river without him ! A nice section from here down to the portage at Dolanog weir. Plenty of features to keep us on our guard and spots to play etc. Once we portaged Dolanog and after we had an admiring glance at it discussing which line we would take if we had all had frontal lobotomies, we re joined the river opposite a farm about 200 metres below the huge weir. On we go to the next section of the trip which is the gorgeous and exciting “Dolanog Gorge” section. On the river right is the Glyndwr’s Way, from here the gorge can be inspected if required or desired. Ensuring we left enough time and space between paddlers we began the challenge headed by Kee. Everyone dealt with the gorge with great competence and skill. I for one released a few skeletons from my cupboard and I know others who did too. All 12 successfully through the Gorge and off we head towards the last couple of features, the most tricky of which is a broken weir which if the route is clear is best taken river left against the rock wall and back in to the main flow. More playing surfing and a little splashing as Kee, need cooling down, before heading down towards the get out at at Pont Robert by the telephone box. The elderly Gentleman who lives here is a cockney and a true Gent, we chatted with him for a while as we moved boats etc.
A great successful day without a single incident which with a group of this size shows how much we have all improved over the past months. Keep up the good work Wombles, active and pro active, that sums us up as a Club.
Well done to Barry, Rich ( Birthday Boy), Rob, Gary, Elliot, Geoff, Andy, Kee, John, Paul, Loz and Myself. A great 3 hours 40 minutes finished off with a swift pint in the local, pub/ Chinese Restaurant The Breidden Inn, near Welshpool. Great day as always and fabulous company. Thanks all 😉
