A quick report from the riverside.
Alwen…….Barry quickest onto a river ever, John earliest roll on a river ever, Rich D quickest onto a surf wave ever, Dav slowest onto a river ever! I love running new rivers. The excitement of running a new river for the first time is difficult to match. The Alwen is worth doing…….fast moving water, a few trees to slalom around, steep in places and a cracking grade 3 which had us all smiling. Dav ran the nasty weir with protection set up and we all finished by going through the grade 3 rapid under the A5 roadbridge. Nice! Good effort John, Barry, Rich D, Ricki, Dav, Me and shuttle/cameraman Nige. 0.89 on the gauge.

The Ceirw………..Well worth the 10 minute walk in. Taxi! We discovered that it is possible to park closer but you would miss out on a nice walk along the old A5. We walked up to the end of the gorge section and ran the last grade 4 hit. Ricki styled it and put myself and dav to shame. Nice one Ricki! The run down to the Goat pub is never very testing but is worth doing, The play waves look excellent.
Nige had a nice chat with a local about paddling on a “private” river and another day of paddling came to a close.

    I want more!

Good report Tim. Have to agree The Alwen was much better than expected. Most of the information on the Alwen didn’t make great reading, just goes to show you need to do things yourself to get a true picture. The get in was the easiest ever, couldn’t have parked any closer unless we’d parked in the river ! Nice simple get out after the last drop, 20 metre walk out to the road. Fun all the way down especially the grade 3 section a few hundred metres below the Ceirw confluence. Great day and thanks to Nigel for his help and pictures.
