What can I say, another great day out on the water, a large turnout so if I miss anyone out I am truly sorry, ( it’s my age ) Geoff, Kee, Gary, Rich D, and son Oliver, John ( Hagley) Rob, Simon ,Anton, Paul, Ricki and yours truly. We ventured up to Bala, and decided to paddle the Upper Tryweryn, above the chipper. We got on the river around 11-45AM, the water was on a 9 cumecs release and a good flow of clean water was running from the top making some nice features on this section.
We practised surfing and lots of eddy hoping and breaking in and out, this part of the Tryweryn is a great location for honing your skills and practising many different moves. Some of the guys ventured further upstream to the “UPPER UPPER”, above the chipper, just below the pour over flow from the Dam, this was a very enjoyable section so those who paddled in and down it told me, I could watch them tentatively from the comfort of my cockpit further down stream, great stuff guy’s.
We ran this section a couple of times then decided to move to the other side of the chipper and paddle down river to the top of “The Graveyard”. ( A big thank you, to the guy who as I was preparing to seal launch down the big slope towards the chipper, ( yes I did it all on my own and without a parachute) asked me if I was OK , I said yes, then he stuck his boot on the back of my boat and pushed my down the slope, I hadn’t even got hold of my paddle ! PLONKA ) The river was very busy with lots of boats in all the eddies along both banks and an onslaught of BIG RUBBER DINGY’S, known as raft’s, Blinking ( for any kids tuning in) loads of the darn things, some full of VERY VERY large people. Plenty of water along this stretch and great piece of river to practice on, very different to the earlier section. The challenge was avoiding collision with fellow paddlers and staying well clear of the DINGY’S full of HUGE, bodies, Ha Ha !A few of the team decided to venture a little further and tackle The Graveyard, fair play to these guy’s, Kee, a legend in his little play boat “Nice one buddy”, Ricki, tackling some very tight eddies at the top of this section and staying upright, well done 🙂
All in all another super day great company, decent weather considering what we have had this week, and most of all a SAFE INJURY FREE TRIP.
Well done to all and a special thanks to Mr Geoff Lewis, Producer and Director of some very “X” rated WKC, footage over the months, who once again was at the helm of his portable Movie making equipment capturing the moment for all to see.
Cheers and thanks 🙂
